Carol Vinick

Artist Statement:
The signature of my work is its spontaneity. I am inspired by color, the fiber itself, and life's vibrant energy. I just sit down and allow the creative forces to take me there.

I am a nurse practitioner by trade, working with urban adolescents. Over the years I have tried to balance raising my family, work, and advocating for justice and peace in the world. Ten years ago I walked into the Manchester CT Sewing Center to get my sewing machine repaired, and learned of the work of modern sewing. I went from sewing clothing for my 6 foot tall daughter, to tradtional quilting, and eventually to art quilting. I loved the freedom of working with the colors and fibers without restrictions or rules. I was hooked!

My work is inspired by social issues, nature, literature, travel, and my love of playing with color and fibers. I work with cotton, silk, and wool. I use a combingation of commercial fabrics, and fabrics that I have hand dyed, painted, or felted.
