The Connecticut Fiber Arts Collective is presenting a fiber art show, Identity and Other Things, during January 2012 at the Southbury Free Library.

The show takes its name from the concept identity and challenges each participant to use fiber art to create an image of the essence of her own singularity. In addition each artist will display a collection of some of their favorite pieces making the entire exhibit a unique and unexpected experience for the public.

The show will be on display during regular business hours at the Southbury Public Library, 100 Poverty Road, Southbury, CT.

Sampling our "Identity"

Cher Hurney
The opening reception at the Levi Coe Library was cancelled due to the October snowstorm that left most of Connecticut without electricity for more than 6 days!

Nevertheless, the show was hung the morning the snow began to fall and here is a sampling of our work.

The exhibit continues through November 30, 2011 at the Levi Coe Library, 414 Main Street, Middlefield, CT 06455, or telephone 860-349-3857 ext. 204.

Paper and Ink

Barbara Khachane and Karen Loprete receiving instruction from Carine Greene.
Last Saturday Carine Greene lead the group in a workshop designed to get our creative energy flowing. The idea came from the book, Drawn to Stitch: Line, Drawing, and Mark-Making in Textile Art by Gwen Hedley. We used india ink and various objects to place lines on two different types of paper. Then we made parallel cuts into one sheet of paper and then strips, one-by-one from the second sheet of paper. The strips from the second sheet were woven into the parallel cuts of the first paper and the results are shown below.
Carol Eaton and Mary Lachman showing their finished pieces.
In addition to our workshop, a few of the members showed new art quilts in progress. In this picture Carol Vinick discusses her creation of flowers using ribbon and thread stitching.
